We are committed to action.

We are committed to workforce diversity, creating equity across our organization and fostering a culture of inclusion. We recognize that diversity and our ability to draw on a variety of perspecives is foundational to delivering focused, innovative and relevant legal services to our clients and serving our community well. DEI is also key to building on WD’s core values of teamwork, collegiality, loyalty and mutual respect.

WD's commitment to DEI is championed by our people, practices and policies. Our DEI Committee, comprising members of our leadership, provides oversight and governance over WD’s DEI framework, which has three central pillars: Representation Matters, Inclusive Practices and Celebrating Diversity.

Representation Matters

We recognize that championing diversity must be accompanied by tangible representation. All our legal professionals and team members are invited to self-identify voluntarily and confidentially. This helps us determine our progress and where we can improve. WD is a founding partner of the Board Diversity Network, a program with a mission to prepare diverse professionals to become board candidates to remedy the need for diversity on Canadian boards. WD is also a signatory to several other initiatives focused on achieving representation. We report on actions we have taken on an ongoing basis, to meet our pledges and to ensure transparency and accountability.

Inclusive Practices

Inclusion is not a choice at WD. It is the way we do business that appreciates, supports and requires inclusion, extending beyond just talent acquisition but also to our vendors and suppliers. We are committed to providing equal and accessible opportunities to future talent who want to join WD as well as vendors and suppliers who wish to work with us. We provide our people with the same opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge to advance their careers, and to contribute to and participate in the success of WD. We are determined to create a culture of respect and inclusion, a work environment free of discrimination and an accessible, merit-based, career advancement path for all those who work with us.

Celebrating Diversity

Diversity is what makes us different from each other and at WD we believe in actively celebrating and sharing with each other our diverse cultures and unique perspectives. We want our people to feel valued, respected and celebrated for their uniqueness and differences. The mandate of WD’s Inclusion Committee, comprised of legal professionals and team members, includes celebrating diversity. We aim to achieve this by not only celebrating diverse events but also through ongoing training and education focused on broadening our experiences. We also celebrate diversity by participating in and supporting a variety of law school and community outreach programs and initiatives that further DEI in the legal profession and the greater community.
